History

Collected for over five thousand years throughout the Horn of Africa and Arabian Peninsula, frankincense and myrrh are natural tree resins that were once worth their weight in gold. The unique fragrance of these resins has been treasured throughout antiquity and is still prized around the world.

In the west, many are familiar with frankincense and myrrh from the story of nativity in which three wise men traveled across the desert to present gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to honor the birth of Jesus. Much has changed since then, yet the long standing tradition of hand harvesting these aromatic resins remains intact. Most of the resin collected today is distilled for use in the perfume industry while the balance finds its way into botanical extracts and incense products.
